SRI LANKA: Tamil plantation workers

20130201_Sri Lanka (519)

In Sri Lanka tea can only be harvested by Tamil workers (Tea Pluckers“). Tamil plantation workers brought here from India in the late 1880s. This work is still underpaid in Sri Lanka. They earn approximately 1 USD per day. All work is done manually and they stand all day in flip-flops in mud, because the weather here is all the time a little bit rainy and very cold.
